Virtual Engineering Consultations
Have a question about a house, renovation, repair, construction project, or maintenance concern? If you are in Kansas or Missouri, you can book a virtual consultation to talk through the situation with a Professional Engineer.
Send your questions along with whatever information you have available, such as photographs, videos, contractor bids, repair proposals, reports, drawings, or other project documents. We will review what you provide, talk through the situation with you, and help answer the questions we reasonably can.
How a virtual consultation works
A virtual consultation can be booked online as a $300 verbal consultation. Just note in the booking details that you would like a virtual consultation. It works best when your questions can be explored using photographs, videos, documents, and discussion during the consultation.

Book the $300 consultation
Choose a time online and mention virtual consultation in the booking details. Include the property location and a short description of what you would like help understanding.

Share your questions and supporting information
Email your materials to questions@prairieriverengineering.com. In the body of the email, include the client’s full name, the property address, a short description of what you are sending, and the questions you would like help with. You can include photographs, links to videos, inspection reports, contractor bids, repair proposals, plans, sketches, construction drawings, or other project documents that may help us understand the situation. During the consultation, you can also share additional information by text or use FaceTime with the engineer when a live look at the property would be helpful.

We review what you provide
We review the available information before and during the consultation so we can better understand the situation. If a video walkthrough would be helpful, we can use that as part of the discussion.

Talk through the situation and next steps
We answer the questions we reasonably can, explain what the available information suggests, and help you think through possible next steps. If the issue cannot be reliably resolved remotely, we will say so and explain what additional information, an on-site assessment, or other analysis may be needed.
When a Virtual Consultation Can Help
A virtual consultation may be useful when you want a Professional Engineer’s perspective on questions such as:
- Reviewing a contractor bid, repair proposal, or quotation
- Comparing multiple contractor recommendations
- Talking through a planned renovation or construction project
- Reviewing inspection report findings
- Reviewing an earlier engineering report or other professional opinion
- Discussing photographs or videos of a house concern
- Getting advice about maintenance or repair priorities
- Talking through drainage, moisture, or site-related concerns
- Asking questions about framing, walls, beams, foundations, crawlspaces, or other structural components
- Reviewing plans, sketches, or construction drawings
- Discussing whether a project may need additional engineering or an on-site assessment
- Getting help deciding what reasonable next steps may be
- Getting an engineering perspective before committing to a repair or project
- Discussing a house-related question when you are outside our normal on-site service area
Some questions need an on-site visit
A virtual consultation can be helpful for many situations, but some house problems cannot be fully understood from photographs, videos, or documents alone. Movement, condition, context, and the way different parts of the house relate to each other may require an in-person assessment.
We will work with the information you provide and answer the questions we reasonably can. If we determine that an on-site visit, additional documentation, testing, or another type of analysis is needed before we can give you a reliable opinion, we will let you know and explain the next steps.
